Flooring can look very different in your home than it does in a showroom or online. Natural and artificial light, wall colour, cabinetry, furniture and even the size of the room can change how a colour or pattern feels.

Visit our King of Prussia showroom and we’ll help you narrow down your choices and arrange samples so you can see them in your own space. Some samples may be available to take home from the showroom; others may need to be ordered from the manufacturer.

Approximate room dimensions can be helpful when you first visit because they give us a sense of the size and scope of your project. Photos of the rooms, existing flooring, stairs and adjoining spaces can be helpful too.

Before flooring is ordered and installed, however, we’ll make sure the space is professionally measured. Flooring quantities involve more than multiplying length by width — closets, stairs, doorways, transitions, pattern direction and the amount of material needed for cutting and waste all need to be considered.

In addition to confirming dimensions, the measurement allows us to identify details that can affect the installation — including stairs, transitions between different flooring types, existing flooring, room configuration and visible floor-preparation requirements.

Some flooring products have an attached pad, while others require a separate underlayment. Depending on the product and installation, underlayment can provide cushioning, sound reduction, moisture protection or the support required for the flooring to perform properly.

This isn’t something you need to figure out yourself. We’ll determine what the manufacturer requires and what makes sense for your particular installation.

Whether an existing floor can remain in place depends on what it is, its condition, the new flooring you’ve selected, changes in floor height and the manufacturer’s installation requirements.

Installing over an unsuitable surface can create problems with movement, transitions, doors and the performance of the new floor. We’ll assess your situation and recommend whether the existing flooring can stay or whether removing it is the better approach.

The floor underneath your new floor matters more than most people realize.

Depending on the product being installed, a subfloor that is uneven, damaged, unstable or affected by moisture can impact how your new flooring looks, feels and performs over time.

We’ll identify visible concerns during the measuring and planning process whenever possible. Occasionally, however, a problem can’t be seen until the existing flooring is removed.

If that happens, we’ll show you what we’ve found, explain what needs to be corrected and review any additional work before proceeding. We won’t simply install a beautiful new floor over a problem that could compromise the finished result..

Yes. Removal and disposal of existing flooring can be included as part of your installation when required.

What is involved depends on the flooring being removed and how it was installed. Removing carpet and pad, for example, is very different from removing glued-down flooring, hardwood or tile.

We’ll identify the expected removal requirements when planning your project and include the appropriate work in your estimate. If an unexpected condition is discovered underneath the existing floor, we’ll discuss it with you before additional work is done.

Furniture moving can be accommodated for many installations, and we’ll discuss what’s required when we plan your project.

You’ll generally need to remove smaller items, breakables, lamps, electronics, artwork and personal belongings from the rooms being worked on before the installers arrive.

Please let us know in advance about particularly large, heavy or unusual items such as pianos, pool tables, safes, aquariums or specialty furniture. Appliances and certain other items may also require separate arrangements.

We’ll tell you what can be moved as part of your installation and what you’ll need to arrange beforehand so installation day goes as smoothly as possible.

In general, you’ll want to remove personal belongings, breakables, electronics and smaller items from the rooms being worked on. Closets may need to be emptied if flooring is being installed inside them, and installers will need a clear path between the entrance to your home and the work area.

Preparation can vary depending on the flooring and scope of work. We’ll review the details with you ahead of time so you aren’t trying to figure everything out the night before installation.

Installation time depends on the size and complexity of your project, the flooring you’ve selected and how much preparation is required.

A single straightforward room may be completed relatively quickly. A whole-home project, stairs, detailed layouts, removal of existing flooring or significant subfloor preparation will naturally take longer.

The flooring itself can make a difference too. Carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl and other materials have different installation processes and requirements.

Once your flooring has been selected and your home measured, we’ll be able to give you a much better idea of the installation schedule and explain what to expect before work begins.

In many cases, yes. It depends on the size of the project, the rooms involved and the type of flooring being installed.

For smaller projects, you may simply need to stay out of the work area while installation is underway. Larger or whole-home projects may require some planning around access to bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms or stairways.

We’ll review the installation sequence with you in advance so you know which areas will be affected and can plan accordingly.

Finishing details matter. The way new flooring meets walls, doorways, stairs and other flooring types has a big impact on how the completed project looks.

Depending on your project, existing baseboards may remain in place, shoe moulding may be used, or other trim work may be required. Transitions may also be needed where your new flooring meets another type or height of floor.
